I was contacted by the owners of Morgan’s pier and asked to make 40 table tops for their new beer garden on the water front. After a few meetings and emails, we came up with 20 tops to be made from reclaimed pallet lumber and 20 to be made from old cable reels. The 20 made from pallet lumber were to be fully constructed of old pallets and were a tedious but fun project. The 20 made from cable reels required less work and really just needed a good sanding and coating. This was the biggest project I’ve done to date and I was on a really tight schedule with only 23 days before opening to complete the project. Each set of table has 3 coats of marine Spar varnish to protect them from the rain and moisture along the river.

Stop by Morgan’s Pier at 221 n. Columbus Blvd. and check out the bar height table tops, and cable reel table tops I made. And while your there grab a craft beer and enjoy great view of the Ben Frankin Bridge.

Joe, my barber at Sulimay’s barber shop in Fishtown, has been handing out my business cards and having faith in Retrend since day one. He had mentioned that he would like a sidewalk easel for the shop to let pedestrians know the prices and hours of the shop. This easel was made with reclaimed studs and a piece of mdf board purchased from Home Depot. After I made the easel I painted the mdf board with chalk board paint so he could write on it.

Stop at Sulimay’s in Fishtown at 303 E Girard Avefor a clean shave and a good haircut.

Adorn Boutique is a one of a kind jewelry store located in Fishtown, Philadephia. The owner Sarah reached out to me to see if I could make her a custom sliding door for her powder room at her new event space above her shop. Because the space was going to be home to art shows and other events the one requirement for the door is that it would have to be white like the rest of the room. I made the door with reclaimed white oak from some old pallets I had laying around. After the door was made I painted it white and installed it on a sliding track in front of her powder room. The door is light and can be used on at room in the house.

David from Groundswell Design Group contacted me about doing a table for a project he has been working on at one of his clients homes in New Hope. The project called for a a dinning table with a 10 foot maple tree slab for the top. The table base was already on site, and was a vintage German grade school lunch table. For this project I had to take apart the stools attached to the base and install the maple slab to the top of the base. After doing this I had to finish sand the maple slab and add a few coats of a polycrylic wood finish for added protection.

Check out all the wonderful work David and his team are up to at Groundswell Design Group.

These 2 tables were made from reclaimed joist and left over pieces of a maple tree slab used for the bar top at Philadelphia Bar and Restaurant on Olde City Philadelphia. Nick from PBR gave me a call and asked if I could come check out the left over pieces of maple at the basement of the bar. He wanted to know if I could use them for tables for his apartment. I took the 7 foot length and cut it in half and biscuit jointed it to make the coffee table. The end table was made from a scrape piece and almost went in the trash if I i wasn’t there to rescue it.

Stop by PBR at 120 Market St in Olde City to check out the amazing piece of maple they used for their bar top. And grab one of their many American craft beers!

This 6 foot long window planter box was made from reclaimed joist. This box along with 2 other were made for the windows of West Tavern on the corner of 15th and Callowhill . The owner contacted me about making some unique planter boxes for the windows of the her bar. I have made a few planter boxes for some homeowners in Fishtown, but this was the first business that contacted me about them. I changed up the design a little bit for West Tavern and made the boxes look two tone by flipping the top piece of lumber to show the natural color of the wood, while the bottom piece stayed untouched and remained a darker shade. Window boxes are a great way to add a little spring or fall to any home or business.

Stop by West Tavern at 1140 Callowhill St and check out the boxes for yourself and don’t forget grab a beer and a Dirty burger.

This table was my first kitchen table, and it was a great project. The customer wanted a bar height table made with metal base that had casters so it could move from the wall to the center of his kitchen. I showed him a design and he loved it. The table top is made from reclaimed joist and the edge of the top was stained with Minwax Ebony stain. The top also has 7 coats of a Minwax Polycrylic which is a crystal clear, fast-drying protective topcoat for use over bare wood and resists damage from abrasion, scuffing, chipping, water, alcohol and other common household chemicals.

The stools for this project were purchased from a bar/restaurant supply store and the tops were removed. The wood tops were also made from reclaimed joist. They were biscuit jointed and cut into circle and square shapes at the customers request.

The total time for this project took 14 days.

This table was also feature in the article about myself and other Philadelphia salvage businesses. Check out the link here http://articles.philly.com/2012-06-23/news/32369772_1_marble-slabs-warehouses-building
